Agri-food Systems and Rural Development

This program prepares graduates to work in agri-food systems and sustainable rural development, with a focus on developing countries and tropical regions. It offers an interdisciplinary approach, covering food production systems, food processing, and agricultural technologies based on renewable energy. Key components include food security and its role in sustainable rural development. Students study agricultural production systems, bioresource technology, food security, and the economic and social aspects of rural development. The faculty provides ample opportunities for hands-on experience through international projects. Students are encouraged to develop their master's thesis in collaboration with these projects or with institutions in developing countries.

Graduate profile

Graduates of this program possess expertise in technological processes for plant, animal, and aquaculture production in tropical regions, as well as food production and quality in developing countries. They understand sustainable natural resource use, with an emphasis on renewable energy and bioresource technology, and are well-versed in rural development, agricultural policy, and food security in Global South countries.

Graduates can design plant, animal, and aquaculture systems in the tropics, assess food security risks, and analyze agricultural and bioresource data. They are skilled in modelling and designing resource systems based on renewable energies to ensure food security and can publish scientific research.

Career opportunities include roles as managers, experts, consultants, and advisors in private companies, government, and NGOs focused on agriculture, food production, food security, and rural development. Graduates are also qualified to manage and evaluate international projects centered on sustainable rural development and agriculture in Global South countries.

Admission requirements

Admission procedure: 1. Selection of applicants based on submitted documents (annotation (in English) of the Bachelor thesis (or similar written output), the results of previously completed studies (or at least results of the last finished year; in the form of a statement of results) and the experience and prerequisites for the study contained in the CV and the letter of motivation).
Part of the 1st round is the Scio GAP online test in English focused on a general overview of the applicant - organized in cooperation with the Scio company.
2. Interview in English focused on the professional subject area according to the selected field of study.

Required documents: Successfully completed Bachelor (undergraduate) education, the certificate of which (either the original or its verified copy) will be required from the candidates when enrolling in their study, annotation of the Bachelor thesis (or similar written output), CV and a letter of motivation
