International Development and Agricultural Economics

Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences

The master's programme has a long-term vision to respond to current global challenges, including societal changes in the global economy, population dynamics and rapid urbanisation, the decreasing sustainability of farming systems and ecosystems, the creation and implementation of agrarian policy, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and the increasing pressure on natural resources on which millions of smallholder farmers depend for their livelihoods. The programme's principal objective is to promote a science-based, interdisciplinary approach with the aim of facilitating a paradigm shift towards agroecological, sustainable and highly productive agriculture. This will ensure the long-term sustainability of smallholder farmers' livelihoods and the provision of food for the entire population.
